About Us

Social Investment and Responsibility

We believe we have a responsibility to make our community in which we work a better place by supporting upcoming scientists and business individuals. Hence, our company participates in internship programs, sends graduate students from local universities to National scientific meetings, participate in poster sessions with students and share facilities with universities. We also have a responsibility to provide solutions to businesses that provide preventative, curative and palliative interventions. Therefore, we must continually strive to innovate, contain costs and collaborate with industry leaders.

History

Our Founders formed PhysioGenix in 1997, to commercialize proprietary technology developed in the Human and Molecular Genetics Center and the functional genomics research program in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). These programs received over $40 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) over the last 10 years. The Rat Genome Project is linked to PhysioGenix because the MCW Brown Norway rat (now exclusively licensed to PhysioGenix) is the strain of rat whose genome was sequenced at a cost of $100 million by the NIH-supported Rat Genome Sequencing Consortium. One of the major accomplishments of these research efforts resulted in a publication in Science of the Systems Biology Map for Cardiovascular Function. This map for the first time identified key regions of the genome that influence most cardiovascular traits (from blood pressure and heart rate to plasma lipid levels, renal and vascular function). The Founders’ research programs are also currently funded by the NIH with a budget of over $16 million. MCW’s Department of Physiology remains among the highest funded physiology programs in the US and provides the potential, through PhysioGenix’ license agreement with MCW, for a rich pipeline of academically-derived and funded IP that can be licensed to PhysioGenix. We initiated formal operations in 2001 following the award of our first Phase 1 Small Business Innovation Research Grant and with an equity seed investment from Mr. Jim Hudson, the founder and former CEO of Research Genetics Inc. Since that time, we have grown into a world-leading provider of research services in the field of complex chronic disease. We offer a portfolio of both routine and specialized preclinical services and research models. Our company is competitive in the marketplace with quality, reputation, responsiveness, pricing, innovation, timeliness and availability. In addition our scientific staff works with clients to develop and implement efficient preclinical pharmacology studies in the fields of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Recently we expanded our expertise into cognitive and behavioral science by combining our natural rat models with a battery of common behavioral tests. Furthermore, our scientist-to-scientist communication and real-time data posting throughout the entire process creates a problem-solving environment capable of responding to a client’s toughest drug development challenges. This allows our clients to take their compounds to the next step in a more efficient manner.

Present

We believe that medical progress along with the rapid growth of the aging population will lead to greater emphasis on and demand for diagnosing, managing and treating chronic disorders. There has been rapid worldwide growth in the incidents of cardiovascular, metabolic, and renal diseases. The rapid growth of these diseases has led to an accelerated effort to find cures for Type II Diabetes, Chronic Kidney Disease, Hypertension and other debilitating and life threatening diseases associated with the cardiovascular, metabolic and renal systems. We supports these research efforts with our extensive knowledge, preclinical contract research services and laboratory services in these fields combined with our best in class research models. Through our in-house capabilities and partnerships with outside experts, we seek to deliver the most comprehensive suite of solutions in our fields of expertise for our biopharmaceutical customers.
